About Allegretto Vineyard Resort
Allegretto is a Tuscan-villa resort, winery, and spa on the east side of Paso Robles, and the draw is the property itself. It is the deeply personal project of hotelier Douglas Ayres, who filled the 20-acre estate with art, antiques, geodes, and religious artifacts gathered around the world and, in places, built right into the walls. A sense of ceremony runs through the grounds: a stained-glass Abbey for quiet reflection, the fountain-lined Piazza Magica, a Star Garden Trail of twelve meditation stations that climbs the vineyard to a hilltop view, and the world's first Sonic Labyrinth, which plays wind-instrument tones as you walk it.
Even without an overnight stay, you can taste the estate wines, Cabernet from the Willow Creek District along with Viognier, Vermentino, Rose, and blends, poured in the piazza or the indoor tasting room, and join a guided art tour on weekends. Cello Ristorante handles Mediterranean cooking, and the spa, saltwater pool, and weekend yoga in the Abbey round it out, making Allegretto an all-day or all-weekend destination rather than a quick stop.
