About Anomaly Vineyards
Anomaly Vineyards grew out of a backyard experiment. When Steve and Linda Goldfarb moved to St. Helena in 1997, they harvested the 149 vines beside their house and made wine in the garage; the first commercial vintage, in 2000, came to 300 cases. By 2002 they had opened a stone winery designed by architect Jon Lail, complete with a 2,400-square-foot underground cave.
Today the estate covers roughly eight CCOF-certified acres in three blocks, Cosette's, Indee's, and Ashby's, planted chiefly to Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot on gravelly, sandy loam. Winemaker Mark Porembski has led the cellar since 2002, and production runs about 1,700 cases: the estate Cabernet, a limited Petit Verdot, and a reserve 'Designation' offered only to allocation members.
Anomaly began with 149 vines beside the Goldfarbs' house and a first wine made in the garage.
