About Anthill Farms Winery

David Low, Anthony Filiberti, and Webster Marquez met as cellar hands at the famed Williams Selyem winery, where coworkers watching the three scramble for the same hose joked they looked like ants on a farm, giving the future winery its name. On a road trip through Oregon's Willamette Valley after the 2003 harvest, the trio hatched a plan to launch their own label, releasing three Pinot Noirs in 2004 with no family money and no industry connections beyond their cellar-rat jobs.

From 200 bootstrap cases, Anthill Farms has grown into one of California's most sought-after small Pinot Noir producers, crafting around a dozen single-vineyard bottlings from cool, remote North Coast sites like redwood-ringed Comptche Ridge and fog-line Campbell Ranch. The partners farm many of the small plots themselves, favoring restraint over ripeness with native fermentation and limited new oak, and most bottles disappear into a mailing list before ever reaching shelves.

Named by teasing coworkers, colleagues at Williams Selyem joked that the three founders scrambling for the same hose looked like ants on a farm, and the name stuck.
Hatched on a post-harvest road trip, the idea for the winery came together as the trio toured Oregon's Willamette Valley after the 2003 harvest ended.
Cellar rats made good, with no savings and no family wine money, the founders bootstrapped from 200 cases in 2004 into one of California's most allocated small Pinot producers.
