About Argot Wines
Justin Harmon grew up in Chicago with a chemical engineering background and taught himself winemaking in his parents' basement, using a home kit and flash-frozen Napa grapes shipped in by train. He moved to California in 2005 for a harvest internship under Russell Bevan, and after three consecutive harvests as a cellar hand, founded Argot in 2007 on the back of a single ton of Syrah.
Argot grew deliberately, adding Chardonnay in 2008 and then Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, accelerating after Justin met his wife and business partner Beth Thompson in 2011. The label sources from cool-climate Sonoma Mountain and Bennett Valley sites plus high-elevation Napa vineyards like Sugarloaf Mountain, producing rich, layered wines in lots as small as 125 cases that have earned over one hundred 90-plus ratings and a Purely Domestic Wine Report Winery of the Year nod.
