About Baxter Winery
Baxter Winery is a small, quality-driven producer in the heart of the Anderson Valley, in Mendocino County, founded in 2002 when two generations of the Baxter family, father Phil L. Baxter and son Phil T.G. Baxter, both winemakers by trade, came together to highlight the best of North Coast viticulture. Phil Jr. studied winemaking in Burgundy, and that Old World sensibility shapes the estate's approach.
The winery produces roughly 2,000 cases of handcrafted, single-vineyard wines, led by Pinot Noir with a little Chardonnay and some hard-to-find varieties, along with a dry rose made to pair with local seafood. Traditional techniques, native yeast, and neutral oak keep the focus on purity of fruit and the distinct character of each site, from high-elevation Signal Ridge to coastal Oppenlander.
Baxter's cool, mid-century-modern tasting room sits in downtown Philo, opposite Lemon's Market, and is both pet-friendly and ADA accessible. Reservations are recommended for the seated tastings, an intimate, personal alternative to the busier tasting rooms to the south.
