About Bennett Valley Cellars
Bennett Valley Cellars is a fourth-generation, family-owned winery whose estate sits in the Bennett Valley, one of Sonoma's smaller and cooler AVAs. Luca and Elizabeth Zanin farm roughly forty acres of estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on Simpatico Ranch, where the family makes its home, on volcanic and alluvial soils that stay fog-cooled through the growing season. Winemaking is handled by Toni Stockhausen, and the estate wines have collected Double Gold and Best of Class honors at competitions like the Sonoma County Harvest Fair.
There are two ways to taste. Most visitors head to the cozy downtown tasting room, just steps off the Sonoma Plaza, which is open daily and pours the Pinots and both an unoaked and a barrel-fermented Chardonnay in an unpretentious, welcoming setting, often with almonds and chocolate alongside. For a closer look at the source, the family also hosts private, by-appointment tastings out at the Zanin home and vineyards on Simpatico Ranch in the Bennett Valley itself.
It is a small, personable operation built around a single family and a single valley, the kind of place where the person pouring your wine may well have grown the grapes.
