About Blanchard Family Wines
Known in childhood simply as "the Blanchard Boys," brothers James and Mark Blanchard took wildly different paths: James through the Air Force Academy to a career as a military officer and helicopter pilot, Mark through poetry studies to a stock boy job in a Chicago wine shop and eventually up the ladder of Sonoma County's wine industry. During one of James's visits to Healdsburg, over a cigar and a glass of wine, he turned to Mark and said the time was now, and Blanchard Family Wines was born in 2007.
Guided by veteran Sonoma winemaker Jene Chapanar, the brothers craft extremely limited, mostly single-vineyard or 100% varietal wines from Russian River, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek, and Alexander Valley fruit. Every Healdsburg tasting is a private, single-party affair hosted by Mark himself, often with barrel samples, and the family logo of interlinked Bs, designed by their father Steve, honors the brothers' bond; a second tasting room in Denver's Dairy Block brings the wines to James's adopted Colorado home.
