About BloodRoot Wines
BloodRoot Wines is the value-minded project of Noah and Kelly Dorrance, the husband-and-wife team behind Dry Creek Valley's Reeve Wines and, earlier, co-founders of Banshee. The idea behind BloodRoot is straightforward: make wines that reflect the soul of a place, at a quality and price that make them, in the winery's own words, no-brainers to drink. The name nods to life from death, the blood of the vine nourished by its roots and the terroir around it.
The flagship is a classic California Cabernet Sauvignon, blended from benchmark vineyards across Knights Valley, Rockpile, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek, made in a style consciously inspired by the balanced, savory Cabernets of the 1970s and 80s. The lineup extends to Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, rose and red blends, farmed sustainably and made with a light hand.
The tasting room sits in downtown Healdsburg, a block off the plaza, with a relaxed indoor space and an outdoor patio; reservations are recommended. Beyond the wine, the Dorrances run BloodRoot as part of 1% for the Planet and host an annual music festival, the Ramble, to raise money against gun violence.
