About Bluebird Hill Cellars
Neil and Sue Shay bought a homestead with an overgrown Christmas tree farm near Monroe in 2011, spending the next five years clearing the land and planting 5,500 vines of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. The warm hilltop site catches gentle summer breezes, with vines rooted in silty clay soil layered over the remains of an ancient seafloor, and Winepress Northwest's 2020 Platinum Award Judging called it a rising star along the South Willamette Wine Trail.
The Pinot Noirs are barrel aged a full 24 months, a patience rarely practical for larger wineries, aimed at drawing out exceptional mouthfeel and balance. Beyond the core Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, the lineup runs to Pinot Gris, White Pinot Noir, Rose, Syrah, a Syrah Pinot red blend and dessert wines, poured Fridays through Sundays from May through October.
