About Brassfield Estate Winery

Jerry Brassfield made his first land purchase in what is now Lake County's High Valley AVA in 1973, expanding over the decades to holdings of several thousand acres that include the dormant Round Mountain volcano. He established Brassfield Estate Winery in 1988 on a roughly 2,500-acre property that today includes about 270 acres of vineyards, extensive wine caves, and a thousand-acre wildlife preserve.

The estate's vines grow at elevations from about 1,300 to over 3,000 feet, where cool ocean air slows ripening; the aptly named Volcano Ridge vineyard sits directly beside Round Mountain's cinder cone at 2,000 to 3,000 feet. Brassfield produces wine exclusively from estate-grown grapes, and the property also hosts overnight guests at its Estate Lodge with chef-prepared dinners paired to the wines.
