About Cain Vineyard & Winery
Cain Vineyard & Winery is named for Cain — the first son of Adam and Eve in the biblical narrative, the tiller of the earth whose agricultural labor defines his identity. Unlike Abel the shepherd, Cain worked the ground; his name is synonymous with the farmer's relationship to the earth: direct, laborious, committed, and marked by the weight of that commitment.
The Spring Mountain District estate produces Cain Five (the estate's flagship Bordeaux blend of all five varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot) and Cain Concept (a more approachable second wine) from volcanic and sedimentary mountain estate vineyard blocks. The five-variety Bordeaux blend format is unusual in Napa Valley, where most estates emphasize Cabernet Sauvignon alone.
Wine Advocate has scored Cain Five at 91–95 points, recognizing the quality achievable when all five Bordeaux varieties are grown on volcanic Spring Mountain terrain and blended with equal respect.
