About Calafia Cellars
Calafia Cellars is the personal label of Randle and Mary Lee Johnson, founded in 1979 and run quietly ever since, a virtual winery that has operated continuously for more than four decades without ever owning a physical facility. Randle, who holds a master's in viticulture from UC Davis, made wine at Mayacamas and Stags' Leap Winery before roughly forty years at The Hess Collection.
The flagship La Reina is estate-bottled from a single acre on Fulton Lane in St. Helena, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Around it sit small lots of Zinfandel, Charbono and a rosé of Pinot Noir, estate fruit blended with small quantities from other vineyards, sold selectively through the mailing list and Club Calafia.
