About CADE Estate Winery
CADE Estate Winery released its first vintage in 2005 and completed its Howell Mountain winery in 2009, owned by The PlumpJack Group, the hospitality and wine company co-founded by former San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom and philanthropist Gordon Getty. General manager John Conover has overseen the property since 1999, and CADE was the first winery in Napa Valley to achieve LEED Gold certification, built with recycled concrete, plastic, and metal and no wood framing.
The estate sits roughly 1,800 feet up Howell Mountain, with 21 planted acres on a 54-acre property in volcanic-ash-laden soil across six distinct blocks, farmed under CCOF organic certification and planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Malbec and Petit Verdot. The winery's 15,000-square-foot cave, designed by Juan Carlos Fernandez, is shaped to echo PlumpJack's shield logo, and its tasting table is built from reclaimed World War II submarine metal.
