About Capture Wines
Capture Wines is a Sauvignon Blanc specialist with a distinctly French sensibility, from its name, stylized Capture, to bottlings called Tradition and Les Pionniers. The winery sources from vineyards at the cooler, wilder edges of Northern California wine country: Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, the Spring Mountain District and Lake County, sites the winery likes to say see more wildlife than people.
Sauvignon Blanc is the clear focus. The flagship Tradition is fermented in stainless steel and aged on its lees for about ten months, yielding a bright, crisp wine of citrus, lime pith and stone fruit with a savory, grassy edge, in a style that looks to the Loire as much as to California. The more ambitious Les Pionniers offers a richer, more layered expression, and the range extends to Cabernet-based reds from the same rugged appellations.
These are wines built around acidity, minerality and restraint rather than power. Tastings are limited and best arranged directly with the winery, a worthwhile detour for anyone who takes Sauvignon Blanc seriously.
