About Casa Nuestra Winery
Casa Nuestra was founded by Gene Kirkham, a former San Francisco civil rights attorney known locally as the 'Happy Farmer,' who bought the St. Helena property in 1975 and released the first commercial vintage in 1980. Set on the west side of the northern Silverado Trail, the roughly 40-acre estate centered on a yellow 1890s farmhouse called the Douglas House and a winery building dating to 1978.
The winery built its reputation on heritage varieties that had largely disappeared from Napa Valley, including Chenin Blanc planted in 1960 and Riesling from 1970, alongside Cabernet Franc and a seven-variety Tinto field blend. Farming was organic from the original planting, decades ahead of the practice becoming common, and the estate installed solar power in 2005. Annual production ran 1,500 to 2,500 cases, sold mainly through a by-appointment tasting policy and a wine club allocation list.
Its Chenin Blanc vines, planted in 1960, were farmed organically from the start, decades before that was standard practice anywhere in Napa Valley.

✓
Apparent closureWine club shipments reportedly stopped without notice around 2022, and the winery's own online presence shows no signs of current activity.
"A pioneering organic, heritage-variety producer that appears to have quietly wound down operations in recent years."
