About Claudio Family Cellars
Claudio Family Cellars is the project of winemaker Chris Jones, who left a career in software (including a stint at Amazon Web Services) to make wine full-time. The label's name honors his mother's maiden name and a family winemaking tradition that traces back to his cousin Sammy Russo and great-uncle Rocco Pompeii, home winemakers in a heavily Italian immigrant neighborhood of Binghamton, New York.
Jones began making wine as a hobby in 1994, hauling fermenting must in carboys between Minnesota and New York before building a proper home winery on Lake Vermilion. After completing UC Davis's Winemaking and Viticulture Extension program and working harvests at Gravity Wine House and Sojourn Cellars, he founded the commercial label in 2021, moving production to Napa Valley and sourcing fruit from mountain vineyards including Yates Family Vineyard on Mt. Veeder.
