About Cimarossa Wines
Dr. Dino Dina, an Italian-born vaccine researcher, bought the Howell Mountain property in 1997 with his wife, Dr. Cornelia, a pediatric infectious-disease physician, when the land was still used for grazing. It's now a 60-acre estate with 15 planted acres split across ten distinct blocks between 1,600 and 2,100 feet, on soils ranging from white volcanic ash to a lava cap to deep red loam, with terraced vines interplanted alongside olive groves.
Nearly the whole vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, aside from small plantings of Nebbiolo and Malvasia added in 2019. Mia Klein has made the wine since 2009, following early vintages from 2003 produced at O'Shaughnessy Winery. Production has grown from roughly 300 cases to about 1,200 today, sold mainly through a private allocation list that occasionally includes the rare Il Circolo bottling.
Nearly the entire vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, save for small plantings of Nebbiolo and a few rows of Malvasia added in 2019.
