About Consilience Wines
Consilience Wines takes its name from the scientific concept of consilience — E.O. Wilson's term for the unity of knowledge, the idea that all fields of human knowledge are ultimately connected and consistent, that the evidence from different disciplines converges on the same fundamental truths. Applied to winemaking, the consilience philosophy declares the integration of all knowledge relevant to wine: the biology of the vine, the chemistry of fermentation, the geology of the soil, the meteorology of the climate — all converging on the single expression in the bottle. The Santa Barbara boutique produces Syrah, Grenache, and Petite Sirah from Santa Barbara County vineyard sources with the unified-knowledge philosophy the scientific term implies.
