About Crocker & Starr
Crocker & Starr was founded in 1997 when landowner Charlie Crocker and winemaker Pam Starr partnered to revive the historic Crocker vineyard in southern St. Helena. The estate's roots go back to the 1870s, when Irish immigrant James Dowdell established Dowdell & Sons Winery on the site; the original 1882 stone winery building and a 1910 family chapel still stand today. The winery built its own on-site production facility in 2016.
Pam Starr, a UC Davis fermentation science graduate (1984), spent 18 years working at wineries including Edna Valley Vineyard, Carmenet and Spottswoode Vineyard before co-founding Crocker & Starr. The roughly 100-acre estate (about 85 acres planted) is farmed organically and produces about 2,500 cases a year of Bordeaux-style Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc, the last partly sourced from Hyde Vineyard in Carneros.
