When Al andWhen Al and Boots Brounstein established the Diamond Mountain Road estate in 1968, they identified that the 20 acres of steep Diamond Mountain terrain they had purchased contained three geologically distinct soils — Volcanic Hill (volcanic ash and pumice), Gravelly Meadow (gravel and loam), and Red Rock Terrace (red volcanic rock) — and made the then-unprecedented decision to vinify each geological block separately and bottle them as individual named vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons.
