About Field Recordings
Andrew Jones spends his days as a grapevine nursery fieldman, planning and planting vineyards for farmers all over California, a job that has put him in just about every vineyard on the Central Coast and hands him a running map of the state's most underrated parcels. Field Recordings, launched with the 2007 vintage from a first batch famously made in his attic, is his personal catalog of the people and places he values most: small lots of fruit offered on the side by growers he plants for, turned into soulful single-vineyard wines and playful blends with zero pretension.
The operation has grown from hobby project to one of Tin City's anchors, with a two-story tasting room at 3070 Limestone Way pouring skin-contact orange wines, chilled reds, pet-nats and barrel-aged classics; Jones reckons Field Recordings may be California's largest pet-nat producer. The Fiction and Wonderwall labels cover the rotating blends, and Salad Days, a Colombard-based traditional-method sparkler, brings organic bubbles to grocery shelves nationwide. Winemaking leans natural: native yeasts, minimal sulfites, vegan-friendly, with most large-production wines around $25. Good enough for a special occasion, made for a Tuesday night.
