About Foxen Vineyard & Winery
Foxen Vineyard and Winery is one of Santa Barbara County's defining producers, founded in 1985 by Bill Wathen and Dick Dore, the famous Foxen Boys, on the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in Foxen Canyon. The ranch has been in Dick's family since 1837, when his great-great-grandfather, English sea captain William Benjamin Foxen, purchased the Mexican land grant, and the winery still sits on 2,000 acres of working ranch land.
The focus from the start has been small-production, sustainably farmed, vineyard-designated wines made with a minimalist hand. Today there are two distinct tasting experiences a quarter mile apart: the solar-powered FOXEN tasting room, pouring the winery's Burgundy, Rhone and Loire varieties, and foxen 7200, the original blacksmith shack where it all began, dedicated to Bordeaux and Italian varieties. The winery also earned a place in wine-country lore through the film Sideways, which rolled through Foxen Canyon.
Tastings are outdoors and seated, with reservations recommended and walk-ins seated when space allows. The main FOXEN room is open daily from 11 to 4, while the historic shack pours Friday through Sunday, and the rural canyon setting rewards anyone willing to drive a little farther for their Pinot Noir.
