About Frog's Leap Winery
Frog's Leap was founded in 1981 by John Williams and Larry Turley, who had met camping on Turley's Napa Valley property and bonded over wine. Williams, then head winemaker at Spring Mountain Vineyard by day, made the first vintage, 700 cases of Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel, from purchased Spottswoode fruit. The winery's name and playful "Ribbit" corks combine Turley's Frog Farm property with Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, where Williams had his first Napa Valley job.
Williams earned Napa Valley's first CCOF organic vineyard certification in 1989 and has championed dry farming ever since; Frog's Leap still dry-farms its Rutherford vineyards without irrigation. Turley left in 1994 to found what is now Turley Wine Cellars, and Williams still owns and makes every Frog's Leap vintage today alongside his son Rory and wife Tori.
