About Graystone Winery
Graystone Winery is a small boutique Port house in Clifton, just off Highway 6 between Grand Junction and Palisade, and the only winery in Colorado devoted to Port. It was founded in 2001 by Barbara Maurer, who planted vines on a Clifton peach property after a UC Davis consultant suggested she pursue a niche no one else in the state was filling.
The name comes from the graystone bluffs of the Book Cliffs that stand out after a rain, a scenic backdrop the vineyard shares with the Grand Mesa. Graystone's ruby and white ports have earned double gold medals and a reputation, echoed by other Colorado winemakers, as the best in the state. The Tuscan-style tasting room, marked by a bright purple door and lined with oak barrels, doubles as a gift shop stocked with local gourmet foods, wine accessories, and house-made fudge.
Hours, tasting fees, and reservation policies change with the season, so it is worth checking the winery's website or calling ahead before you visit, especially on weekends. The details on this profile may have shifted since publication, and the producer is always the most authoritative source.
Colorado's only Port house, holder of the state's only double gold for port.

Wines change with each vintage
Graystone specializes in Port, the only house in Colorado to do so, featuring ruby red ports and Lipizzan, a distinctive white port, from Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The velvet-rich ports reward slow, contemplative sips.
