About Hartwell Estate Wines
Bob Hartwell planted a 2-acre parcel on the Silverado Trail in 1986 using Bosche-clone Cabernet Sauvignon cuttings from Grace Family Vineyard, with the first vintage released in 1990; those early wines were even made at the Grace Family winery before Hartwell built its own facility in the Stags Leap District.
Realm Cellars purchased Hartwell's winery buildings and caves in 2016 to use as its own production home, and acquired the remaining upper vineyard blocks in 2020. Realm now produces a single-vineyard wine called 'Hartwell XX Estate' from roughly one acre of the original Bosche-clone vines, but the independent Hartwell Estate Wines brand and tasting operation appear to no longer be active.
The Hartwell winery site is now owned by Realm Cellars, which bottles the original vineyard's fruit as its own 'Hartwell XX Estate' Cabernet.
