About Hovey Winery

Hovey Winery brings a wine garden and later weekend service to the heart of downtown Murphys. Founded in 2008 by Chuck Hovey, a longtime Calaveras County resident and Sierra Foothill winemaking pioneer, the winery pours from the historic 1850 Albert Michelson house on Main Street, with a shaded lawn locals simply call "the garden."

The portfolio is broad, reflecting Chuck's decades working with Calaveras vineyards: a wide range of reds, whites and blends, with Zinfandel, Tempranillo and Sangiovese among the standouts. Fruit is sourced largely from Calaveras County and the wine is made just a short walk from the tasting room. Flights, glasses and bottles are available; the last tasting begins about thirty minutes before closing, and groups of seven or more should reserve.
