About Hyland Estates
Hyland Estates is the house label of one of Oregon's most historic vineyards. Hyland Vineyard was first planted in 1971 in the foothills of the Coast Range, in what is now the McMinnville AVA, by Willamette Valley pioneers including Dick Erath and Charles Coury. Today the site spans roughly 185 planted acres of volcanic Jory soil at 600 to 900 feet of elevation, including own-rooted Pommard, Wadenswil, and Coury-selection Pinot Noir vines from those original plantings alongside Dijon 115 blocks added in 1989.
For decades Hyland fruit has been the quiet engine behind acclaimed single-vineyard bottlings from some of Oregon's most respected producers - names like Patricia Green Cellars, Penner-Ash, Walter Scott, Beaux Freres, Antica Terra, and Bergstrom have all drawn from these vines. In 2007 the vineyard was acquired by Laurent Montalieu and Danielle Andrus Montalieu in partnership with John Niemeyer, who introduced the first estate wines under the Hyland Estates name. The lineup centers on old-vine and single-clone Pinot Noir with aromatic dry whites - Chardonnay, Riesling, and Gewurztraminer - all drawn exclusively from the estate.
The vineyard itself is not open to the public, but the Hyland Estates tasting room sits at the western edge of Dundee just north of Highway 99W, an easy stop on the Willamette Valley wine road. The cozy room opens onto a seasonal patio overlooking a pond, and walk-ins are welcome for groups of up to six. Hours run Wednesday through Sunday, 10am to 4pm, shifting to reservation-only in winter - confirm with the winery before visiting.
