About Jachter Family Wines

Dave Jachter spent more than twenty-seven years running car dealerships in Oregon, well enough known locally for the tagline And That's No Bull, and decorated enough to draw a Dealer of the Year nomination from Time. When he sold the businesses he chose not to retire and started a winery instead.

The interest was not new. He dates it to 1975, when he and a friend went out after final college exams and asked a waiter for a good red wine. The waiter countered by offering a great one, and produced a Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Decades of collecting followed, along with travel through France, Italy and California.

The estate is a single site on volcanic slopes in the Chehalem Mountains, just under eighteen planted acres, farmed organically and regeneratively. He built a new winery and barrel room to go with it, and the first estate vintage came in 2023. Everything is estate fruit: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, rose and sparkling.

The tasting room opened in July 2023 and takes a more structured approach than most, with two tiers of experience running ninety minutes to two hours, both waived against a two-bottle purchase. The calendar extends to yoga sessions and plein air watercolour classes on the estate.

Twenty-seven years selling cars, then a volcanic hillside and a first vintage at sixty-plus.
