About Jarvis Estate

Jarvis Estate is built almost entirely underground in a cave system covering approximately 45,000 square feet near Napa's eastern hills. The winery was designed so grape processing, fermentation, barrel aging and hospitality could take place within a stable subterranean environment. For visitors, the cave is not a short decorative tunnel; it is the winery itself.

The public Vintage Tasting introduces several current Jarvis wines after a guided walk through the production caves. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and proprietary or limited wines may appear depending on the current lineup. Members can access a separate Founders' Reserve experience that adds barrel samples, library wines and a charcuterie board. Public guests should reserve the Vintage Tasting rather than assuming membership-only wines will be included.

Tours are offered daily by appointment and commonly book weeks ahead. The route can include the Cuve Gallery, fermentation spaces, barrel areas and the underground waterfall before a seated tasting. The public experience is restricted to guests age 21 and older. Comfortable, stable footwear is important because the visit includes walking through working cave spaces rather than remaining at one table.

The underground environment keeps the experience cool and visually distinctive in every season. Stone walls, water and production equipment create a sense of being inside the winemaking process. Guests who are uncomfortable underground or who have mobility concerns should contact the winery before reserving. Holiday closures and special member events can affect the schedule.

Jarvis is best for cave enthusiasts, engineering-minded visitors and travelers who want a guided winery tour rather than only a tasting. The $150 public reservation is a significant commitment, so it should be treated as a primary appointment. Confirm duration, accessibility, cancellation terms and the wines included. Leave enough time for the Monticello Road drive and do not bring children or unregistered guests.

An entire Napa winery carved into the Vaca Mountains, where a natural waterfall runs past the barrels and every step of winemaking happens underground.

What Wino Notion Loved
Visit pending, based on winery profile & reputation
Jarvis Estate isJarvis Estate is the extraordinary underground wine estate of Bill and Leticia Jarvis, their English-heritage family surname on a Napa Valley winery that is literally inside a mountain.
The Jarvis familyThe Jarvis family excavated 45,000 square feet of caves into the hillside above Napa, creating one of the world's most dramatic underground winery facilities: natural temperature-regulated cave tunnels housing the fermentation, aging, and tasting rooms entirely within the mountain.
The Monticello RoadThe Monticello Road estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc from estate vineyard sources with the underground-cave philosophy that the subterranean winery facility implies: wine made within the earth itself, aged in the constant 58-degree temperature that the cave's depth maintains year-round.
"Wino Notion likes that Jarvis does not merely add a cave to the tour; the entire winery is underground. The waterfall, fermentation gallery and barrel spaces give visitors a clear reason to choose the experience beyond the wine list."
