About Kongsgaard Wine
Kongsgaard Wine is John Kongsgaard's personal label — his Norwegian-heritage family surname placed on wines that represent four decades of accumulated Napa Valley winemaking knowledge. John Kongsgaard spent two decades as winemaker at Newton Vineyard before establishing his own label, his surname becoming one of the most recognized in California fine wine circles.
The flagship wine, The Judge Chardonnay, is named for John's father — Napa Valley judge and rancher whose Carneros farm provides fruit for the estate's most celebrated white wine. The Judge has become one of California's most sought-after and critically acclaimed Chardonnays, Wine Advocate scoring it at 95–98 points and placing it among the handful of California whites that rival Burgundy's finest.
Kongsgaard also produces Syrah from the Hudson Vineyard in Carneros, Cabernet Sauvignon from valley sources, and Arietta (his other label). The Norwegian-heritage surname on California's finest Chardonnay is one of the wine world's most satisfying coincidences.
