La Honda Winery is the Peninsula's great aggregator: its own Post & Trellis Vineyards crew painstakingly hand-farms more than 100 small vineyards scattered through the Santa Cruz Mountains between San Francisco and San Jose - backyard and estate plots in La Honda, Woodside, Hillsborough, Portola Valley, Atherton, Los Altos Hills, Saratoga, and Los Gatos. That mosaic of sites lets the winery match each varietal to its ideal microclimate.
Back at the Redwood City winery, the fruit becomes intense small-batch bottlings made with a mix of state-of-the-art equipment and old-world craft, sold under the La Honda label alongside sister projects Merry Pranksters and Hunt & Heist. The operation is verified carbon-offset, an extension of the sustainability ethos that runs through the farming.
The urban winery at 2645 Fair Oaks - long called 'a best kept secret' - functions primarily as an event space and working cellar rather than a daily tasting room: private and corporate parties, winemaker dinners, blending sessions, and charity events fill the calendar, while monthly public tastings go out by email invitation.
