About Lago Lomita Vineyards
Lago Lomita sits at 2,600 feet on Loma Prieta Avenue, high enough to spend most days above the fog rather than under it. That makes the site slightly warmer than the rest of the Santa Cruz Mountains, which otherwise gets compared to Burgundy for its cool climate.
The property runs to 44 acres with 12 acres of ridge-top vines, planted to a mix of French and Italian varieties: Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese and Nebbiolo. The Porters took their first harvest in 2017.
Much of what they grow ends up in bottles you may already know. Bargetto takes their entire Nebbiolo crop, and most of the remaining fruit goes to Soquel Vineyards and Wrights Station. Wrights Station bottles Lago Lomita vineyard-designate Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Franc, and folds their Sangiovese into a red blend.
The estate is also somewhere to stay rather than only to taste. There is a tree house and a yurt for guests, and the whole property, with its view across Monterey Bay, works as a wedding and event venue.
Tastings are by appointment on most days, and vineyard tours can be booked alongside.
