About Lang & Reed Wine Company
Lang & Reed Wine Company is named for Tracey Skupny's maternal grandparents — Lang and Reed, two family names from a previous generation, placed on a Napa Valley Cabernet Franc estate as a tribute to the ancestors who shaped the founder's values. The grandparent tribute naming is among the most personally specific wine naming conventions: not a concept, not a place, not a philosophy — but two real people whose names are now on a bottle.
John and Tracey Skupny's estate is one of the very few Napa Valley wineries dedicated primarily to Cabernet Franc — a variety that most valley producers treat as a blending component for Cabernet Sauvignon. Lang & Reed's conviction that Cabernet Franc can stand alone in Napa Valley has been confirmed by critical recognition.
Wine Advocate has scored Lang & Reed's Napa Valley Cabernet Franc at 90–94 points, recognizing the quality of the sourcing and the Skupnys' accumulated knowledge of which Napa Valley sites best express Cabernet Franc's aromatic and structural potential.
