About Laura Michael Wines
Laura Michael Wines was founded in 1999 when winemaker Laura Swanton bought a small Calistoga property from a hobby winemaker, producing her first Cabernet Sauvignon in 2000 under the Zahtila Vineyards label before renaming the winery for herself and husband Michael. It remains a small, family-run, appointment-based operation on Lake County Highway on the north end of Calistoga.
The winery farms its own Oat Hill Estate Vineyard, planted to Zinfandel and the rare-for-Napa Portuguese variety Touriga Nacional, while also sourcing Cabernet Sauvignon and other varietals from vineyards across Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino. Self-taught, Swanton describes her style as balanced, bright and food-friendly wines built to age, at a production of roughly 2,000 cases a year, among the smallest tasting rooms in Napa Valley.
