About Levy & McClellan
Levy & McClellan was founded in 2004 by husband-and-wife winemakers Bob Levy and Martha McClellan. Bob trained at UC Davis and worked at Cuvaison, Rombauer Vineyards and Merryvale before a long tenure as founding winemaker of Harlan Estate; Martha, a graduate of Germany's Geisenheim enology program, worked in Germany and Australia before joining Merryvale in 1995 and later becoming winemaker at Checkerboard Vineyards.
Their six-acre estate vineyard, planted in 1999 off Franz Valley School Road northwest of Calistoga near the Diamond Mountain District, is farmed organically and mostly dry-farmed at high density with no tractors or herbicides, yielding a scant 1-2 tons per acre. Each vintage is fermented entirely in new French oak, wines are never fined or filtered, and the goal is Cabernet-based wines that convey a distinct sense of place. The winery has no public tasting room; wines are allocated through a mailing list and poured at restaurants including The French Laundry, The Restaurant at Meadowood, and Auberge du Soleil.
