About LXV Wine
LXV began with fog: Kunal Mittal, a tech executive and pilot, diverted an Oceano-bound flight into Paso Robles, and he and his wife Neeta, engineers who met at UC Berkeley, fell for the town on the spot. The name is Roman numeral 65, a tribute to the 64 arts of living in ancient Indian scripture; wine, unmentioned in the classics, became the Mittals' 65th art. Neeta, among the first Indian women to own a winery in the United States and a Wine Enthusiast Future 40 honoree, built the house's signature around her spice-merchant heritage: every release is paired with a hand-blended spice, tastings that USA Today named among the ten best wine experiences in America.
The wines are serious beneath the theater: Bordeaux-leaning, old-world-styled bottlings from coveted sites like Bien Nacido, G2 and the Mittals' own Armaa.N Estate in the Willow Creek District, made with winemaker Jeff Strekas, a UC Davis-trained Napa veteran of Merryvale and Round Pond. Cabernet Franc is a house passion, the MESO single-vineyard tier has drawn scores in the high 90s, and the jewel-toned downtown tasting lounge pairs pours like a Bordeaux blend with black truffle salt and cumin. Culture, spice and Willow Creek limestone in one glass.
LXV solves the downtown-versus-estate problem with flavor: Neeta and Kunal Mittal draw on their Indian heritage for a signature Flavor Flight that pairs spices with the wines, an experience local chefs say never sends anyone away unhappy.
A fog-diverted landing became Paso's 65th art: the Mittals' spice-paired Bordeaux house, a USA Today top-ten tasting with Willow Creek seriousness beneath.
