About Calera Wine Company
Calera is one of California Pinot Noir's founding legends: Josh Jensen, Yale- and Oxford-educated and Burgundy-apprenticed at Romanee-Conti, spent years hunting limestone before planting his Mt. Harlan vineyards in 1975 in San Benito's remote Gavilan range, naming the crus Jensen, Selleck, Reed and Mills. The wines proved American Pinot could be profound, patient and place-first.
Jensen sold Calera to Duckhorn in 2017 and passed away in 2022, mourned as one of the greats; the limestone crus continue under the name he built. The lime kiln on the label marks the quest that started it all.
