About Municipal Winemakers
Municipal Winemakers is named for the municipality — the city, the civic body, the political unit that governs together. Founder David Potter's declaration: wine should be as public and accessible as the city that produces it, not the exclusive property of appointment-only mountain estates. The Santa Barbara urban winery is democratic in its pricing, its opening hours, and its walk-in-welcome philosophy.
Operating from a downtown Santa Barbara production facility on Anacapa Street, Municipal Winemakers produces Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Grenache from purchased county fruit — working relationships with growers throughout the Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Maria Valley, and Sta. Rita Hills appellations. David Potter's winemaking style is restrained and terroir-focused: wines that taste like Santa Barbara County, not like winemaker intervention.
The walk-in tasting room is open daily and welcomes dogs — a policy that signals Municipal's commitment to genuine public accessibility.
