About Preston Farm & Winery
Preston Farm & Winery is one of the most genuinely agricultural winery experiences in California. Founded in 1975 by Lou and Susan Preston, the estate is an actual working farm — producing bread baked daily in a wood-fired oven, estate olive oil, organic vegetables, heritage chickens, ducks, geese, and sheep alongside the wines.
The Preston philosophy is old-fashioned in the best sense: grow everything yourself, make it with minimal intervention, and sell it with honesty. The tasting room sells bread, olive oil, preserves, and vegetables alongside the wines. The bocce courts, garden benches, and shaded outdoor areas create an atmosphere that's more French farmhouse than California tasting room.
The wines themselves are primarily Rhône and Italian varietals — Viognier, Marsanne, Grenache, Syrah, Barbera, and Carignane — reflecting Lou Preston's conviction that Dry Creek Valley's warm, dry climate is better suited to Mediterranean varietals than to Bordeaux grapes. He was ahead of his time, and the wines prove it.
Preston Farm & Winery presents a featured lineup that includes Dry Creek Valley Barbera, Viognier, Guadagni Red, and Estate Zinfandel. Together, these bottles provide a focused introduction to the varieties, vineyard sources, and style that define the winery's current portfolio.
"A true working farm in Dry Creek Valley — breadmaking, olive oil, garden vegetables, heritage livestock, and honest Rhône-style wines from one of Sono"
