Founded in 1998 by David and Debra Whiting, the winery sits on Tichenor Road in Hector with commanding views of the lake and surrounding vineyards. The name comes from the red-spotted newt, a common sight in the Finger Lakes woodlands, and the winery's approach is similarly rooted in the natural character of the region. Red Newt sources from carefully selected vineyard sites across Seneca Lake to produce wines that express the diversity of soils and microclimates.
The portfolio centers on Riesling in multiple expressions from bone-dry to dessert, alongside Cabernet Franc, Lemberger, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Noir.
