Flathead Lake Wine

Flathead Lake in northwest Montana is the state's best hope for meaningful viticulture. The lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi, provides thermal mass that moderates the extreme cold of Montana's zone 4 winters, creating a narrow band of moderated climate along its shores where cold-hardy hybrid grapes can survive and produce wines with genuine varietal character.
