About Lake Erie PA Wine

The Lake Erie shore of northwestern Pennsylvania has been grape country since the mid-1800s, when the Concord grape industry made this region one of the most productive grape-growing areas in the eastern United States. Today, over 20 wineries operate along the lakeshore corridor near Erie, producing wines from both heritage Concord and Niagara grapes and newer cold-hardy hybrid varieties. Lake Erie's thermal mass moderates winter temperatures and extends the growing season, creating conditions more favorable for grape growing than inland Pennsylvania. Mazza Vineyards, established in 1972, and Penn Shore Winery are among the region's most established producers. The wine trail connects tasting rooms along Route 5 with views of Lake Erie, Presque Isle State Park, and the charming lakeside towns of the Erie corridor.
