Texas Wine Country

Texas is too large and varied to treat as one tasting route. Start with the visitor regions below, then use the eight federal AVAs to understand where the grapes are grown.

How Texas Wine Breaks Down

Texas wine tourism and Texas grape growing do not always happen in the same place. Many Hill Country wineries source fruit from the elevated Texas High Plains, while urban tasting rooms bring regional wines close to Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and Lubbock.

For trip planning, WinoNotion uses five broad visitor regions. Within those guides we identify the state's eight official American Viticultural Areas: Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg in the Texas Hill Country, Bell Mountain, Texas High Plains, Texoma, Texas Davis Mountains, Escondido Valley, and Mesilla Valley.
