About Rustic Roots Winery
Rustic Roots Winery opened on Labor Day weekend 2020 in Scandia, a small community in the St. Croix River Valley northeast of the Twin Cities. Despite its recent founding, the roots here genuinely run deep: the family has been part of the St. Croix community for generations, and the 80-acre property reflects that heritage with panoramic vineyard views that transport visitors far from the suburban sprawl just thirty minutes south. The wine pavilion, added in 2022 to handle growing crowds, has become the center of the visitor experience. All wines and ciders are crafted on-site, primarily from grapes grown on the property and sourced from other local vineyards, with select out-of-state fruit added to keep the lineup interesting. The winery's approach is grounded in its name: honest, rooted in place, and unapologetically Minnesotan.
The tasting room experience is casual and welcoming, with vineyard views from the pavilion that are particularly stunning during fall color season. The property's scale, 80 acres of rolling countryside in the St. Croix Valley, gives it a sense of space and openness that smaller urban or suburban tasting rooms cannot replicate. Rustic Roots has quickly built a loyal local following, and its position along the St. Croix Trail makes it a natural stop for day-trippers heading north from the Twin Cities toward Taylors Falls and the river bluffs.
