About Saarloos and Sons
Saarloos and Sons is a family operation on Grand Avenue in the middle of Los Olivos, farming in Ballard Canyon and pouring small-batch wines in a town small enough to walk end to end.
The thing it is known for is the cupcake pairing. A separate business at the same address makes mini cupcakes matched to the wines, and it has become the reason a lot of people come through the door.
The more interesting offer is free. Keith Saarloos runs a vineyard tour every Saturday at ten, walking the ranch and talking about farming, cattle, wine, family and business, with no script and no sales pitch. He describes it as leaving the tasting room behind and going back to where every bottle begins.
Wines are made in small batches and sold almost entirely through the winery, which is why they carry a higher price than the shelf equivalent.
