About Sanguis Wine
Sanguis is Matthias Pippig's blood-and-thunder project: the German-born winemaker's Santa Barbara urban cellar produces small lots of opulent, painterly blends, Rhone-led reds and rich whites with evocative names, that critics scored high and collectors chased, sanguis being Latin for blood.
The wines are unapologetically bold, crafted like couture in tiny quantities. Santa Barbara's maximalist auteur.
Sanguis hides behind a minimalist facade on a one-block stretch of Ashley Avenue on Santa Barbara’s Eastside, where Mattias Pippig blends with increasing balance and freshness - powerful wines that have grown more precise in recent years, now joined by a new sparkling wine project that locals flag as a can’t-miss stop.
