About Seneca Shore Wine Cellars

About Seneca Shore Wine Cellars

If Penn Yan is on your New York wine itinerary, Seneca Shore Wine Cellars is worth approaching with enough time to ask questions and understand where it fits within the Seneca Lake side of the Finger Lakes. The winery's location at 929 Davy Road, Penn Yan, New York makes it easy to plan the visit as a defined stop rather than a vague regional detour. For this enrichment pass, a current Seneca Lake Wine Trail roster continues to carry Seneca Shore Wine Cellars as a winery or visitor wine producer. For first-time Finger Lakes visitors, the region makes more sense when you taste with geography in mind. Deep lakes help moderate the surrounding vineyards, but each site still has its own exposure, elevation and farming choices.

Ask which wines are most tied to the winery's preferred vineyards. A good first tasting starts with context. Ask whether the winery recommends a flight, a smaller curated set of pours or a particular sequence. If there is an estate or local bottling that matters to the producer, include it. For weekend travel, check whether the winery recommends reservations or limits larger groups.

Popular New York wine regions can become busy quickly in summer and fall. For Wino Notion, Seneca Shore Wine Cellars earns its place in a visitor itinerary when you treat it as a chance to learn, not just taste. Ask the team for the wine or story that best represents the property. If Seneca Shore Wine Cellars becomes one of your priority stops, leave enough time to enjoy the tasting rather than treating it as a quick check-in. The best wine-country memories usually come from the conversation, the pace of the day and one or two wines you understand better when you leave.

Visiting

Open daily 10am to 5pm, with the last tasting starting at 4.30pm and last call at 4.45pm. There is a deck with tables overlooking Seneca Lake, a stockade, and a costume corner for what the winery calls a Royal Transformation. It is genuinely family friendly, with games and colouring for children. Note the group rules: parties of up to six are taken as space allows, groups of seven to ten need a reservation at least 72 hours ahead, groups cannot exceed ten, and buses and limos are not accepted. Outside beverages of any kind are not permitted.

Seneca Shore Wine Cellars is a member of the Canandaigua Lake Wine Trail, which links wineries from Victor down through Canandaigua to Naples.
