About Silver Oak Napa Valley
Silver Oak has been one of Napa Valley's most iconic Cabernet Sauvignon producers since Justin Meyer and Ray Duncan founded the winery in 1972. The Oakville estate at 915 Oakville Cross Road is the Napa Valley home of a program that produces nothing but Cabernet Sauvignon — a focused singularity of purpose that has defined Silver Oak's identity for over five decades and helped establish the benchmark for what Napa Cabernet can be at its most approachable and consistently excellent.
Silver Oak's Napa Valley Cabernet is sourced from estate vineyards in Oakville and purchased fruit from other premium Napa appellations, aged in American oak barrels that have become a signature of the house style. The wine is known for its warmth, accessibility on release, and the telltale vanilla and coconut notes that American oak imparts — a style that proved enormously popular with American consumers and helped build the winery's legendary reputation through the 1980s and 1990s.
Two distinct wines anchor the Silver Oak program: the Napa Valley bottling, produced at the Oakville estate, and the Alexander Valley bottling from Silver Oak's Sonoma County property. Both are single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon programs released only when the winemaking team is satisfied with quality — a commitment that occasionally means skipping a vintage rather than compromising the standard.
"Silver Oak Napa is the wine that taught a generation of American wine drinkers what Cabernet Sauvignon could taste like — rich, accessible, and unambiguously Napa."
The tasting room is open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Sunday from 11am to 5pm, with reservations recommended. The $50 starting fee provides access to current releases and library wines. The Oakville location places Silver Oak at the heart of the valley's most celebrated Cabernet corridor.

Justin Meyer andJustin Meyer and Ray Duncan established Silver Oak in 1972 with two convictions that distinguished the winery from every other Napa Valley Cabernet producer: produce only Cabernet Sauvignon, and age it exclusively in American oak barrels rather than the French oak that dominated Napa Valley cellar practice.

The American oakThe American oak aging — unconventional, economical, and producing a distinctive vanilla and spiced character that French oak cannot replicate — combined with extended bottle aging before release and approachable pricing created the Silver Oak style: warm, generous, immediately drinkable yet capable of 20+ years of graceful aging, and priced accessibly enough that the wine could be shared with friends rather than cellared indefinitely.
