About Slightly Askew Winery

Slightly Askew Winery is exactly what the name suggests: a Yadkin Valley winery that does not fit the usual mold. Instead of a hilltop tasting room overlooking rows of vines, it occupies an old house on North Bridge Street near the middle of Elkin, and visitors often describe the feel as closer to sampling wine at a friend's place than touring an estate.

The winery does not farm its own grapes. It makes wine in-house from local juice alongside juice sourced from respected wine regions around the world, which lets it pour a notably broad list: dry and semi-dry reds and whites for one end of the spectrum, and a deep bench of sweet and fruit wines for the other. Several bottlings are named after the owners' black Labrador retrievers.

Along with tastings the shop sells home-winemaking supplies, so guests who like something on the list can buy what they need to make it themselves, plus snacks, cheese, glassware and gifts. The winery is dog-friendly and walk-in friendly, sits on the Surry County Wine Trail, and rents a four-bedroom vacation house with a hot tub a few steps off the back patio.

Not a vineyard, a winery in an old house on Elkin's main street, with one of the widest lists in NC.

A town winery, set in an old house on North Bridge Street rather than out among vines, and all the more relaxed for it.
Range is the point, dry and semi-dry reds and whites alongside one of the largest fruit-wine selections in the state.
Make it yourself, the shop sells the juice and equipment to reproduce at home whatever you liked in the glass.
Dogs welcome, the winery is dog-friendly and several wines are named for the owners' black Labs.
