About The Wine Foundry
Valerie and Philip Von Burg, an attorney and a business consultant who bonded over a shared love of food, wine, and travel, bought the assets of the failed custom-crush pioneer Crushpad in 2012, including 900 barrels of client wine, and relaunched the business as The Wine Foundry in Napa. Winemaker Patrick Saboe, who had worked at the original operation, stayed on to help lead both the custom-crush program and the winery's own Foundry and Anarchist labels.
The Wine Foundry lets aspiring winemakers, from individuals to nonprofits, craft their own wine starting from a single barrel, offering hands-on Crush Camps during harvest and access to fruit from prized vineyards including Stagecoach. Its educational program has helped launch small entrepreneurial brands, including LoveLee Wines, whose founder credits the Foundry's chief educator, Stuart Ake, with giving her the confidence to enter the industry.
